Impact were called to an engineering company in Somerset as they were having an issue controlling the oil mist from their Dugard 52TTS twin spindle CNC lathe.
The oil mist was having an adverse effect on machine efficiency, but also the air quality in the wokring environment. Inhalation of oil mist is hazardous to health and must be effectively controlled. Workplace exposure limits must be kept as low as reasonably practicable and it must not exceed the maximum threshold of 5mgm3 TWA (time weighted average over an 8 hour period).
Impact’s solution
A member of the Impact LEV design team visited the engineering company to see the process in action; this helped establish the best solutions to eliminate the oil mist, to help with efficiency and also to reduce the workplace exposure.
Having reviewed the enclosure volume, we proposed to install an Impact Oil Mist Extraction Unit OUPA510 to the top of the machine.
The Impact OUPA510 is a self contained unit which will substantially improve the capture and control of the oil mist within smaller CNC machines. This unit provides extraction without the need for make-up air and which enables the extracted oil to be re-circulated to the CNC lathe via a flexible hose resulting in a cleaner, safer workplace, efficient machine operation and reduced oil costs.
