Client Overview
Our client is an engineering company based in Somerset, operating a Dugard 52TTS twin-spindle CNC lathe. Their operations involved significant oil mist generation, which posed a risk to both machine efficiency and operator health.
The Challenge
Oil mist from CNC machining can have serious health impacts if inhaled and must be controlled effectively. Workplace exposure limits must be kept as low as reasonably practicable, not exceeding 5 mg/m³ TWA (time-weighted average over 8 hours). The client needed a solution that would reduce airborne oil mist, improve air quality, and maintain efficient machine operation.
Our Solution
Impact Technical Services carried out an on-site assessment to observe the process and determine the best extraction solution. After reviewing the enclosure volume, we recommended the installation of an Impact OUPA510 Oil Mist Extraction Unit on top of the CNC lathe.
- Self-Contained Unit – The OUPA510 is a compact, self-contained extraction system ideal for smaller CNC machines.
- Recirculation – Extracted oil is filtered and recirculated back to the machine via a flexible hose, reducing oil waste and lowering operational costs.
- Health & Compliance – The system ensures the workplace exposure limits for oil mist are maintained, providing a cleaner, safer environment for operators.
- Efficiency – The unit improves overall machine performance by reducing contamination and oil mist accumulation.
The Result
The installation of the OUPA510 significantly improved oil mist control, reduced airborne contamination, enhanced operator safety, and optimised machine efficiency. The system also minimised oil consumption through recirculation, providing long-term operational savings.
