Client Overview
L.H. Woodhouse & Co Ltd is a well-known supplier of temporary accommodation such as stables and grandstands for leading equestrian events across the UK and Europe, including the 2012 Olympic Games. Their Nottinghamshire workshop operations involve significant woodworking activity, requiring effective dust control to protect operators and meet COSHH regulations.
The Challenge
During an LEV test, we identified that the existing wood dust extraction system did not meet the required standards of control set by COSHH. This posed a compliance issue as well as a potential health risk to operators working with woodcutting machinery.
Our Solution
We were invited to design and quote for a replacement system. After a detailed site survey, our proposal proved significantly better than the alternatives previously received by L.H. Woodhouse. Key elements included:
-
System Design – The new system was designed to provide effective extraction from three machines operating simultaneously, with capacity exceeding the initial design criteria.
-
Installation – Installed by two Impact engineers over three days, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
-
Commissioning – A post-installation commissioning assessment was carried out after one week of use to confirm system performance under normal working conditions and to provide baseline data for future LEV testing.
-
Training & Support – Operators received training from our engineers to ensure correct system use and maintenance.
The Result
The new extraction system provides reliable and compliant control of wood dust, creating a cleaner, safer workshop environment. Both operators and management praised the improved air quality, workshop tidiness, and the professional training delivered by Impact’s team.
