ATEX-Compliant Wood Dust Extraction for Nationwide Freight Forwarder
A leading nationwide freight forwarding company approached Impact Technical Services with a persistent challenge — managing the wood dust generated during the production of wooden packing crates and boxes used to export goods worldwide.
Not only did the dust create housekeeping and air quality concerns, but strict health and safety compliance requirements meant they needed a robust, ATEX-compliant solution to protect their workforce and ensure operational efficiency.
Our Solution
Impact designed, supplied, installed, and commissioned a custom wood dust extraction system serving both a chop saw and a table saw. The system was engineered for safety, compliance, and long-term reliability.
Key components included:
- ACF-A-T52H ATEX Filtration Unit for internal installation, complete with an automatic pulse controller for efficient filter cleaning.
- Attenuated Fan Outlet Housing with H13 HEPA secondary filter (filtration efficiency >99.97%).
- RVH 50 – 11kW Clean-Side Fan in an acoustic sound enclosure for noise reduction.
- ATEX-Compliant Explosion Isolation Damper for added safety.
- Filter Inlet Inline Duct Silencer for quieter operation.
- Explosion Damper Sensor for automatic fan cut-off (wired by others).
- 3mm Fully Welded/Powder-Coated Explosion Relief Channel at 45 degrees.
- New Ductwork Installation compliant with HSG258, including 2mm fully welded ductwork between filter and explosion damper.
- Receiving Hood with Hinged Clean-Out Doors for chop saw access and maintenance.
- Two Local Vacuum Points with manual dampers and standard crevice nozzles for flexible cleaning.
The system was fully commissioned in line with HSG258 requirements, with a full report, user manual, and logbook provided to the client.
