Cross Manufacturing specialise in precision metal components with multiple facilities in the UK and the USA. Their metalworking processes generate dust and fumes that require effective extraction to protect operators and maintain compliance. Impact Technical Services has previously worked with Cross Manufacturing, providing successful LEV solutions across their sites.
The Challenge
The company’s existing extraction table was not performing effectively. Dust from the process was building up on the vertical slats, creating a hazard for operators and reducing extraction efficiency. They needed a reliable system to capture metalwork dust directly at source while keeping the workspace clean and safe.
Our Solution
Impact Technical Services designed and supplied a tailored solution based around the Impact UFPR downdraught bench:
- Downdraught Benches (1000mm × 1000mm and 1500mm × 1000mm) were installed, providing the right fit for the workshop and excellent dust extraction performance.
- Back wall extraction and noise attenuation walls were included, making the benches ideal for the production environment.
- Each bench was served by a 2.2kW centrifugal fan, delivering efficient airflow in line with HSE guidance HSG258.
- The design ensured that dust was captured and removed from the operator’s breathing zone, eliminating the build-up issues seen with the previous table.
The Result
The new downdraught benches provide a clean, efficient extraction solution, protecting operators and maintaining a professional workshop environment.
